Even great Empires must know when it is time to hold back, and now is one of those times. BoardGame Empire is currently suspending all board-game-themed events as we encourage all of you to stay in and do your part in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

This page would normally be a place where we would tell you about all manner of exciting upcoming board-game-themed events. Tales of showcase nights for local game designers, a build-your-own-board-game night we had planned, a recently-launched league where each week you compete in a different genre of board games.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be working to determine if there is a way to make some of our events virtual and also compiling a list of board game recommendations for those of you trapped indoors these next couple of months. To get news about any of those events, keep up-to-date on our recommendations and be notified whenever we resume the events we've been running all this time, sign up for our mailing list below.

Let’s face it, your recent nights out have been a bit boring. You’ve been to the same four bars a hundred times. Dave has started bringing his friend Carlton from work, which is unfortunate because everyone hates Carlton. And the last time you decided to try something new, Carlton somehow got to choose the group’s plans, and you ended up at "50 Shades of Gray" trivia night.

Well we have good news: our whole company is built around the goal of giving game lovers a fun night out. (If you don’t like games, you are dead to us, and you should really stop reading. We cannot possibly help you).

Each month, we host different game-themed events, from tournaments to showcase nights for local designers, and we come up with new events all the time. Join our mailing list to receive an e-mail once a month letting you know what we've got coming up, or just scroll down to see what's currently on the calendar.

Thursday, April 16th

Location: Trident Booksellers & Cafe

338 Newbury St

Boston, MA 02115

Ticket cost: $25

Move over Paint Nite, there’s a new make-a-thing-that-you-would-expect-to-come-out-really-poorly-but-it’s-surprisingly-good-and-now-you-get-to-take-it-home-and-enjoy-it in town. That’s right, you can make your own board game. And we’re talking about a legit worker placement strategy game built around the theme of your choice. We’re partnering with a Northeastern professor of board game design (yeah, that’s a thing) to help you make your masterpiece in three hours flat.

We’ll teach you the principles, help you brainstorm a theme, give you materials, coach you through the process, then playtest your creations. Come with your own idea or figure it out on the spot. Come by yourself or with a group of friends ready to design the game as a team. Grab a spot here:

Next Event Not Yet Created

Time: TBD

Location: TBD

Ticket cost: TBD

Over the years, we've amassed quite a collection of board games, and now we're using those games for good. Every few months, we'll be partnering with a different charity and holding a board game fundraiser event where you'll pay at the door for the chance to play anything from our massive library with 100% of the money going to the cause.

Our next event will likely be in March and be a fundraiser for a few folks running in the Boston Marathon. So if you're competing in this historic race this year and want to be involved, shoot us an e-mail at and let us know what organization you're fundraising for. We'll be selecting a handful of runners to partner with.

Not running the race, but still represent a charity that you think would partner well with a board game fundraiser? Still e-mail us, maybe we can partner with you next.

What do you get for joining our mailing list? Well, we'll inform you when tickets for all these events go live, we'll send you information about any new events we create, and we'll occasionally send you opportunities available exclusively to mailing list subscribers. Most importantly, we send just one e-mail a month because we hate spam as much as you do.
